I have had the good fortune to work with Julio for several years, both as his manager and colleague. Julio has so many excellent skills and good qualities it would strain this format to mention them all, so instead I'll mention a few areas that mean a lot to me when we work together:

hen Julio or his team are on a task, I never have to worry about getting it done, well, and on time. When Julio manages a team, I can always count on them to be productive, engaged, focused, and to have great morale. When Julio runs a strategy, initiative, and project, I always know its going to be the right combination of quality and speed, given the time and resources available, and have high attention to detail. When I work with Julio individually, I always know I am going to get a valuable perspective, great solutions, ready initiative, a great work ethic, and positive energy!

I had the great pleasure working with Julio during the time when obstacles were plenty as we merged with a company of greater size. Our ideas overall on creating a unified UI kit, unified user experiences, common taxonomy, and an efficient development approach was that of a "kindred spirit" where both Product Management and UX were a force multiplier.

Julio helped us create the XConsole design at Trellix, where we had 6 distinct SaaS experiences and moulded them into 1 unified Trellix approach. In addition, the UI Kit was an easy sell to the internal developers because of the way Julios team had constructed a joint development approach on the kit had made both compliance and uniformed designs much easier for the entire product org.

I reported to Julio for nearly 4 years and we were tasked with building an effective design system, Muse, for FireEye, which later became Trellix. Julio and I worked closely together to ensure the success of the Muse with a focus on ease of adoption. Our team was never that large so we had to be efficient at almost every part of building the design system, including designing, coding, documenting, and publishing Muse. Once Muse was in a good place Julio then took the initiative to build a micro-frontend application, XConsole, and begin lining up product teams to add their products to XConsole. This was a major step towards defragmenting the user experience on the Trellix product line and giving Trellix customers a single place to access their security information.

Julio was great to work with, he listened when things were going both good and bad, professionally or personally. Everyone has highs and lows while they go through life, and Julio was there to help me with lows and to celebrate the highs. He was constantly thinking of ways to make our team stronger, or to extend our reach to more products and teams so that we could influence user experience across more of the company.

I wouldn't hesitate to work with Julio again, and genuinely hope the opportunity arises again. Julio always has a positive attitude and a positive outlook, it's infectious at times. He's a polished presenter and speaker and was often the face of both Muse and XConsole because of those presentation skills. The highest compliment I think I can pay Julio is that he knows when to be involved and he knows when to step out of the way and let a team do what they can do. We were successful in the products we built and maintained because not only of Julio's guidance, but also the latitude he gave us to be successful.
